Scientists are often asked to write for people outside their field: funders, the public, students and industry partners. That is a different skill from writing for peers, and few researchers have spare weeks to learn it. Get a free consultation and tell us what you want to say and to whom.
01What Scientific Ghostwriting Is, and Where the Ethical Line Sits
Ghostwriting simply means a writer helps draft text that the credited author publishes. In trade books, popular science and outreach writing, this is common and accepted. The ethical question is about authorship in scholarly publishing, and you should understand it before hiring anyone.
Journals set their own rules. The ICMJE recommendations say that authors must make substantial intellectual contributions, approve the final version and accept accountability for the work. Publisher policies, such as the Nature Portfolio authorship policy, also expect writing help to be acknowledged where required. Hiding who wrote what, or putting a name on research the named person did not do, is where the serious problems begin.
So here is our position. We help you write up your own work, and we follow the disclosure rules of whichever journal, publisher or institution applies. We do not invent data, fabricate results or produce graded coursework. Check each target venue's policy before you begin, and tell us what you find so the project plan reflects it. If a venue does not allow writing assistance, we will not draft for it.
02Who Uses It
Principal investigators writing a first trade book for general readers use it. So do postdocs and faculty who want a plain-language summary of their research, clinicians and engineers with scientific expertise, and science-based founders who need credible written content for investors, partners and customers. It is also useful for senior researchers who want their career's work put into a readable, lasting form.
Research groups also use it for outreach: public talks, blog series, explainer articles and reports for non-specialist stakeholders. The common thread is a person with real knowledge and too little time. Some arrive with a finished idea. Others bring a stack of papers, a conference talk and a vague sense that there is a book in it.
03What We Write
These are the formats most often requested. We can handle one or several.
Popular science and trade books
Narrative and explanatory books for general readers, built around your research and ideas, with a narrative structure that keeps non-specialists reading. We explain jargon, choose strong examples and keep the science accurate to your account. Our ghostwriting services support the full book process.
Book chapters and review-style articles
Contributions that summarize an established area for an edited volume or magazine, written from the sources and arguments you provide. You approve the interpretation and every citation. We do not add sources you have not seen, and we flag anything that looks outdated.
Lay summaries, reports and white papers
Plain-language descriptions of research for funders, boards, patients, policymakers and the public. A good lay summary respects the reader's intelligence without assuming their training. Related work on funding applications is covered by our grant writing services.
Talks, blogs and outreach
Scripts, articles, newsletters and posts that bring your work to a wider audience, in your voice, with a tone you choose, whether that is measured, curious or lightly humorous.
04Your Expertise, Our Drafting
We are a writing company, not a laboratory. The science, data and conclusions belong to you, along with responsibility for them. Our writers do not claim scientific degrees or licenses, and we do not perform or verify experiments or analysis.
Our role is to interview you, study the papers and notes you send, and organize and phrase your knowledge so the intended reader can follow it. We ask questions where something is unclear, and we say so plainly when we cannot follow an argument, and we mark every claim that needs a source so you can supply it.
You then read each draft as the expert. You correct errors, confirm every number and reference and approve the final text. When you search the literature, the National Library of Medicine is a useful starting point for biomedical sources. If your project overlaps with technical ghostwriting or medical ghostwriting, we can bring in the right team.
05How the Process Works
- Consultation. We discuss your goals, your audience and your authorship and disclosure requirements, including any institutional or publisher rules.
- NDA and plan. We sign a confidentiality agreement and agree an outline, a schedule and milestones, so you know what to expect and when.
- Interviews and sources. You share papers, data summaries and notes, and we interview you, usually by video call, so we can capture how you explain things naturally.
- Draft. We write the first version, marking claims that need your verification and any figure we could not confirm from your material.
- Expert review. You check accuracy and tell us what to change. We revise, within the revision rounds set in your quote.
- Final delivery. You receive the approved text, ready for publication, or for submission to your publisher, with a clean reference list if you supplied sources.
06Cost and Timeline
We quote each project individually. After a free consultation you receive a fixed written quote with milestones and no hidden fees, as described on our pricing page. We do not publish set prices for scientific projects, because a lay summary and a 70,000-word book are very different jobs.
The cost depends on length, how technical and heavily referenced the material is, how much source material you provide, the number of interviews and the revision rounds you want. Timelines are confirmed in the quote and depend on length, research and how quickly you review drafts. Rush schedules are available for an additional fee quoted up front. Please allow time for your own review, which is the step that most affects the schedule.
07NDA, Confidentiality and Ownership
Unpublished findings, data and grant plans are sensitive, so a signed NDA comes before any ghostwriting work begins. You own all of the writing, with rights transferring on delivery, confirmed in writing at the start. We keep no copyright, royalty or publishing claim, and we do not reuse your material. If your project is a book, our book publishing services can take it onward.
08Scientific Ghostwriting Services FAQs
Is scientific ghostwriting ethical?
It can be, when the credited author supplies the work and ideas, reviews and approves the text and follows disclosure rules. Problems arise when authorship or contributions are hidden or misrepresented. Check journal and institutional policies. If a journal requires acknowledgment of writing help, include it.
Do your writers hold science degrees?
We do not claim that. The scientific expertise comes from you, the author. Our writers are experienced at interviewing, organizing and clearly explaining specialist material.
Will you write my journal manuscript or fabricate results?
We never fabricate data or results. We do not write graded coursework. For scholarly manuscripts, we can help organize and draft your own findings only where journal and institutional policies allow, with proper acknowledgment.
Who checks the science before it is published?
You do. The named author reviews and approves accuracy and should arrange expert review where needed. Our content is not scientific or professional advice.
Can you write about unpublished research under NDA?
Yes. We sign an NDA before work begins. Tell us about any embargoes, patent considerations or institutional rules so we can plan around them. You remain responsible for permission to share the material.
