01

What Podcast Scriptwriting Covers

Not every show needs a word-for-word script. A narrative or documentary series usually does, because every sentence must carry the story. A solo commentary show often works better from a detailed outline that keeps the host sounding natural. An interview show needs research, a question plan and a strong open and close, not a script for the guest.

We work at whichever level suits your format. Some clients hand over a topic and receive a script. Others want a lighter structure they can speak from. We agree the approach with you before writing, and you can change it as the show finds its voice. It is the same craft as our script writing services, adapted for audio.

02

Who Hires a Podcast Scriptwriter

Solo hosts who record on busy weeks. Authors launching a show alongside a book, who may also want our book marketing services. Companies producing a branded series, and independent producers working on narrative and true-story shows who need research and structure. Teachers, nonprofits and associations also use scripted audio to reach members who prefer listening to reading. If you want to start a show and are unsure what an episode should even look like, we can draft a pilot script with you.

What We Write for Podcasts

Each format is built differently, so we choose the approach that matches how your show sounds.

Solo and commentary episodes

A hook, a clear line of argument and an ending that leaves listeners with something to think about. We write in your speech patterns, close to how you talk, so it never sounds read. We build in small breaths, asides and the occasional change of pace, because a flat delivery is the most common reason a scripted show feels stiff.

Interview research, questions and intros

Guest research, a question list that moves from warm-up to depth, and an introduction for each guest. We leave room for follow-ups, because the best moments are unplanned. Our research notes include a short biography, recent work and two or three topics the guest is likely to enjoy, and we mark questions you may want to skip if time is short.

Narrative and documentary series

Researched, scripted storytelling across several episodes, with a season arc, narration and a cold open that puts a striking scene before the title. We source facts carefully, list our references for your check and flag anything that needs permission before it is used on air. Related brand work is covered in our brand storytelling service.

Intros, outros, promos and ad reads

Short show-opening and closing scripts, trailers, sponsor reads and calls to action. These repeat often, so we keep them tight and easy to say. Sponsor reads follow the sponsor's brief, and if the host has to disclose a paid relationship, we remind you to say so plainly.

Show notes and episode descriptions

Clear summaries, timestamps, guest links and resources that help new listeners decide whether to press play.

How Our Podcast Scripting Process Works

  1. Consultation. We discuss your format, audience, tone and release schedule, and sign an NDA if the show is sensitive.
  2. Format and voice. We study past episodes or a recorded conversation, so the writing matches how you speak. We also learn who your listeners are and what they already know.
  3. Season or episode plan. You approve topics, structure and length before drafting begins. For a series, you see the whole season plan first, so a late change costs less.
  4. Draft. We deliver each script or outline on the agreed schedule, with sources noted.
  5. Your feedback. You read it aloud, mark what feels awkward and send notes. We revise through the agreed rounds.
  6. Final delivery. You receive a clean script, show notes and any promo copy.
05

Writing for the Ear

A listener cannot reread a sentence, so we write short, plain lines with one idea each. Every script is tested by reading it aloud, because a line that looks fine can be awkward to say. Numbers, names and long lists are handled with care, since they are hard to follow by ear. We repeat a key point at the right moment, because listeners may be driving, cooking or walking. For help with clear, simple wording, the plain language guidelines are a useful reference.

We also flag material that needs clearance. Music, sound clips and quotations may require permission or a license, and a scripted show should plan for that. The U.S. Copyright Office FAQ is a good starting point, and you should confirm anything unclear with a qualified professional. We can suggest where clips might go, but you remain responsible for licensing them.

06

Turnaround and What Affects the Cost

Pricing is quoted per project after a free consultation, as a fixed written quote with milestones and no hidden fees. A quote can cover a single episode, a short season or a monthly run of episodes. The main drivers are episode length, research depth, format, number of episodes, revision rounds and how fast you give feedback. See our pricing page for how quotes work.

The timeline is confirmed in the written quote and depends on length, research and feedback speed. Rush schedules are available for an additional fee, quoted up front. We do not promise downloads, rankings or listener numbers, and you will not find those promises in our quote.

07

Ownership and Confidentiality

We sign an NDA before ghostwriting work begins. You own everything we write for you. Rights transfer on delivery, confirmed in writing at the start of the project, and we keep no copyright, royalty interest or credit claim. You can publish the scripts, adapt them into articles or a book and sell sponsorships against the show. If a guest or a sponsor contributes material, get their permission in writing. For distribution on a platform such as Spotify's creator tools, the platform's own terms apply.

Podcast Scriptwriting FAQs

Do I need a full script for my podcast?

Not always. Narrative shows usually benefit from one. Solo and interview shows often work better with an outline or question plan. We help you choose, and you can change your mind later.

How long should a podcast script be?

It depends on your pace. Most speakers deliver about 120 to 150 words a minute, so a twenty-minute episode is roughly 2,400 to 3,000 words. We write to your target length and test it aloud.

Can you script an interview podcast?

We prepare the research, the questions and your intro and outro. We do not script the guest, because honest answers make the best interviews. Your questions stay flexible.

Can you write in my voice?

Yes. We listen to past episodes or a recorded conversation, then write to match your phrasing and rhythm. You read each draft aloud and tell us what to change.

Do I own the scripts?

Yes. Rights transfer to you on delivery, confirmed in writing at the start. We keep no copyright or royalty interest, and an NDA protects your project. You are free to take the scripts to any producer or editor you like.
